What Is Sin and Why is it Bad
On this page you will learn about something that will affect your life and continue to affect your life until you die. The question is how will sin affect your life and can you do anything about it. How sin affects our lives depend upon the choices that we make for ourselves. We have an adversary who is called the devil and he is also called the tempter because he is the one who tempts us to sin. The devil cannot make you commit sin, the devil can only tempt you to do something that you already want to do (Lust) that you know is wrong, So the devil tempts you to do it anyway according to your lust for it. The devil cannot make you do anything you do not want to do; he only tempts you to do the things that you want to do.
Are you a Sinner?
Romans 3:23 (KJV 1900)
23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Let us define what Sin is:
The Bible says that sin is transgression against God. So what is transgression against God? Transgression against God is this, God made man in his image and his likeness. When man acts anyway outside of God’s purpose and plan, this is called transgression. It is like when you raise your child, you expect your child to be like you. Since your child comes from you and you have taught your child things that are like you, you would suppose that your child will grow up to be like you. Well in life, our children do grow up to be like us, that is sinful human beings just like ourselves. But God is not sinful at all and so you would suppose that we would be just like God but on the contrary, we are sinful, and God is not. With that being as it is, we fall short of glorifying God by being unlike he is. Transgression in his lowest form is going against the will of someone. It is also like when people become enemies because one opposes the other. This is my definition of transgression. Unfortunately, sin carries a death sentence, and this is what we all should be aware of because it is our nature to sin. It is something that we cannot help but God knows this and this is why he sent Jesus to save us all from sin.
I think you would agree
that most people want to be good (do good things for other people) and unfortunately some people enjoy being evil. But most people enjoy helping other people in given to those who are not as fortunate as they are. That being the case, people will believe that they are good. They have no idea that only God is good because God has always been good and has never committed any sin. And God is the only one who loves his enemies. No one can make that claim but God. In me and millions of others can attest to that claim that only God is good. But God holds man to a much higher standard than man Holds for himself. Since man cannot be good all the time because of the sin that is in the body of man, all men believe that they are good even though they say and do bad things sometimes. But God holds us all to a higher standard of living because we were created by him in his likeness and in his image.
If any believer still commit sin, that sin gives power to Satan in your life.
It is imperative that man understands what sin is and what sin does to all mankind. The Lord Jesus Christ came to earth from heaven to eradicate sin and to destroy the works of the devil (mankind’s adversary).
The church does not have to keep the law. However, you are not supposed to continue to sin after your sins have been forgiven. For if you have been born again, you cannot sin because a born-again believer is not bound by the law of sin and death but is bound by the law of the Spirit and life. This means that the spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) gives you the power and leads you to follow, and love the Lord, so that you do not sin against him. Remember your sins were forgiven so that you can have a relationship with God. Jesus did not take upon your sins so that you can continue sinning.
Romans 8:1-2 (AMP)
1 THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.
If you transgress the law, it is called sin. Jesus took your sins so that you can have fellowship with God. You have the spirit of God living in you to empower you to keep the law. The law will be around for eternity. The difference between the people of the old covenant, is that Christ had not died and they had no fellowship with God and it did not have the power to keep the law because the spirit of God was not in them yet. So they had to keep the law the best they can and sacrificed animals when they transgressed the law. When Christ died, he took our sins so that we can have fellowship with God and now we have not only fellowship with God as Jesus did but we also have the power inside of us that gives us the power to overcome the flesh, this world and the devil himself. During the old covenant, when a believer died in Christ, they went to a place in hell called Abraham’s bosom. Satan and his cohorts were not permitted on that sacred place called Abraham’s bosom. It was a temporary paradise for those who have died in Christ. They had to go to Abraham’s bosom because they had not the fellowship with God that is needed to go to heaven. That is why they had to perform (keep the law in their own power) because their sins that they committed had immediate consequences. Because they had not fellowship with God. The blood of bulls and goats and lambs could not save them from their sins. Only Jesus Christ could do that and he was called to do just that from the foundation of the creation of the earth itself. So as you can see even the old covenant saints had to have faith in Christ coming to die for their sins. But the sacrifice of lambs and goats and bulls covered their sins, but it did not forgive their sins. The Lord said that he would make a new covenant man that would last for eternity. That man, no longer have to sacrifice bulls and goats to be forgiven of sin.
Hebrews 8:8–13 (KJV 1900)
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his Neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. 13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayed and waxed old is ready to vanish away.
There are many different types of sins that people commit. Some of them are listed in the Scriptures. In these following Scriptures. The Scripture talks about the flesh and the spirit. The flesh is when you live by your feelings and what you want to do regardless of what God wants. The spirit is when you are following the Holy Spirit of which is the spirit of God.
