The 10 Command Law of Moses or the Mosaic Law
Deuteronomy 27:9–10 (KJV 1900)
9 And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. 10 Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.
The 10 Commandments are sometimes called the Mosaic law because God instructed Moses to write his 10 Commandments on two tablets of stone. And because Moses wrote them on the stone, they are called the Mosaic laws but inspired by God himself. When it comes to God’s law, obedience is the major part of any law.
Malachi 1:6 (KJV 1900)
6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: If then I be a father, where is mine honour? And if I be a master, where is my fear? Saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, wherein have we despised thy name?
When it comes to being obedient to the law, obedience to any law is called religion. Now you will read on this website that Christians are not under the Mosaic law although we have been called to repent of lawlessness. The first thing you must do is to be willing to repent from your sins and to be converted to be a Christian (a believer in Jesus Christ and in his death and resurrection).
God created the 10 Commandments so that all people would know that they have broken and transgress God’s laws (the 10 Commandments). And the reason being because the 10 Commandments which is the law cannot save anyone. You cannot be saved by keeping the 10 Commandments because if you break just one of them, you have broken all of them. Now you may be someone who doesn’t understand that but that is how it is. One more thing you should understand, without knowing the 10 Commandments you would never know that you transgressed God’s laws. The 10 Commandments are called in the Scripture the schoolmaster. They call the 10 Commandments the schoolmaster because it teaches you God’s law and it also teaches you when you transgress those laws.
Galatians 3:24 (KJV 1900)
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
So you may ask the question if you cannot be saved by the law (the Mosaic law), then why should we know about it because without knowing about it you would not know that you have committed sin. God expects you to believe and have faith in what Christ did at the cross by taking upon himself all the sins of mankind. This is how everyone is to be saved.
A sinner who sins every day against God, is not aware that he is a sinner because to sin is his nature. And he does not know God’s law. So to convert to sinner, one must know the law.
Psalm 19:7 (KJV 1900)
7The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
Ephesians 2:8 (KJV 1900)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
If you did not know the above verse, you will believe that you can be saved by keeping the law of which no one can keep and thus you would go to perdition (hell). By knowing that you are transgressing God’s law, now you can repent and have faith in what Jesus did at the cross and then you will be saved. This is the reason for the 10 Commandments sometimes called the Mosaic law was written.
As you can see the whole of the 10 Commandments is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and also our neighbors as ourselves. Your neighbors are anyone who is in need of help. This is the whole of the 10 Commandments, and it is also called the moral law
So how do we love God in all those ways that it stated above? The Bible tells us we love God, then we obey his commands. So as you can see we don’t obey God’s commands out of any fear of going to hell, we obey God’s law because we love him (God) and we love his righteousness. The Bible commands us to love God more than anything in this world. That includes your own life and in doing so we become God’s children. If we truly love God as we should, our love for him will be greater than anything, even our wife’s and our children and our siblings also. We must love nothing more than God. To love God also you must not find contentment in anything besides God. With all the things that you can do to prove that you love God, there’s one thing that you must not do and that is to sin against God. Not only will that prove you don’t love God, that would also separate you from God and separation from God as you know equals death.
There are a couple of things that we must know about the moral law. The first thing is that the moral law as far as Christians are concerned has not been abolished. The moral law requires our obedience, but the gospel requires that we worship God in all that we receive through a propitiation which is Jesus Christ death, burial, and resurrection. So as not to put you in condemnation if you do not love God that way, you must know and understand that most people, the majority of believers do not love God like that.
Romans 3:25 (KJV 1900)
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
1 John 2:2 (KJV 1900)
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 4:10 (KJV 1900)
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
The 10 Commandments
Commandment # 1
Exodus 20:3 (KJV 1900)
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
This commandment is talking to you about having any God’s that you worship besides the true God of the Trinity (the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit). All other Gods and religions are false Gods in our four religions. There are just too many of them for me to mention here on this page but on the webpage about religions, there I will mention the most popular ones around the world and tell you a little bit about them.
Commandment # 2
Exodus 20:4-6 (KJV 1900)
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
In the ancient days during the time when the Scriptures were being written. People used to make them selves God’s out of wood, stone medal , and creatures from the sea, the sun, the moon, the stars and anything except the true God of creation. Personally myself, I do not understand why anyone would create a God that does not talk or do anything but to sit on a pedestal while they talk to it. I don’t understand that. Yet even in Christianity today, some Christians believe that an idol is something that is worshiping a false God. Just think about it. How can anyone make an image of a God that they don’t even know what he looks like because no one has ever seen him. How stupid is that? Unless I missed something here, it would seem to me that the people who created images of God was desperate to know God but did not know how to do it and so they created a God that they thought that was there God. It is the only thing that I can think of unless these people were actually insane.
Commandment # 3
Exodus 20:7 (KJV 1900)
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
The thing here insisted on is, that great care must be taken, that the holy and reverend name of God be not profaned by us or taken in vain. We take God’s name in vain: when we connect his name with any catastrophe or anything that makes us angry or disgusted. We must not profane God’s name as well by using his name with profanity. Let us remember that in the Lord’s prayer we ought to hallow the name of the Lord and reverence and respect his name. It is my understanding that we should not even watch things they call entertainment that uses God’s name in vain of which too many movies and now on news shows and just about everywhere you look profanity is being used in some time with the Lord’s name. This should not be done in believers should not watch it or listen to it.
1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV 1900)
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
James 3:8 (KJV 1900)
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
There are many Christians who have a bad habit of cursing and using God’s name in vain. Thus as would James3.8 says about the tongue.
Commandment # 4
Exodus 20:8–11 (KJV 1900)
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
It is my understanding that the fourth commandment about the Sabbath day although the law has not been abolished, I believe that Christians should keep Sunday as the Sabbath day because Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week Sunday. Now I could be wrong because the Scripture to say that the law has not been abolished but some parts of it has. And I believe the part that have not is the moral law.
Commandment # 5
Exodus 20:12 (KJV 1900)
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
As I intend to keep what I believe about this command is simple as I can, I believe that to honor your father and your mother is a very great importance especially in the world today. I happen to know that if your father and your mother are not honored by you so that you can be all you can be and learn from them as I hoped it would teach you from the Scriptures. If you obey them then you won’t be raised by the evil that is in the world. As my mom used to tell me and my grandparents, you must listen to someone. It is best to listen to people who love you and care about you as to your mother and father. To do this honor them would be to do anything they have told you I have asked you not to do.
If they taught you to be a Christian then you would be dishonoring them if you were to go out and steal, curse, profane the name of the Lord and do anything that will be dishonoring the Lord God, your heavenly father and your earthly father as well. To have honor for anyone is to have respect for them anything that they say. We are people on a birthday. We honor people who retire from a job. Honoring people is also appreciating our service or something they had been to them in their lives. And I believe that the word of God says that you should not this honor your parents by cursing around them or drinking around them just because you are old enough to do so. I have never said a curse word to the best of my knowledge around my mother or my grandparents because I had great respect for them. Today it would seem like people who don’t honor their parents or anyone in authority at all. This would be considered a transgression of the law of God.
Commandment # 6
Exodus 20:13 (KJV 1900)
13 Thou shalt not kill.
It is my personal understanding that this scripture should say thou should not murder. When people I had war, people are killed on both sides. When people must defend himself from being killed by another, sometimes they must kill or be killed. Most of the time that’s in a war but it could happen at other times as well. It could happen by accident also. During the time in ancient time God used to have cities of refuge when people would die by accident because something someone did in neglect or sometimes on purpose. But there are times where God said if you murder someone, then your life to be taken as well.
Exodus 21:22–23 (KJV 1900)
22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Genesis 9:6 (KJV 1900)
6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
Ecclesiastes 3:3 (KJV 1900)
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up;
Commandment # 7
Exodus 20:14 (KJV 1900)
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
In ancient times when there were that many people here on earth, the only way that mankind could multiply it by marrying their sisters and their brothers. But there came a time later that God forbid this. And once God said that you couldn’t do it no more it became a law. Because today is not like it was in those days. Today people commit adultery because of their lust of sexual pleasure. And in doing so they do not care about who they hurt. Men lust after all the women whether they are married or not and women lust after men whether they are married or not. Things are actually upside down in today’s world because now you have men want to be women and women who want to be men which is also lawlessness. There are men who rather sleep with men than women this is also lawlessness. These types of acts of adultery causes many things to happen to certain people when they do these kinds of things. Such as venereal diseases. The destruction of the family probably is the greatest tragedy of them all. Because not only does it transgress God’s law which would be between the person and God but it also involves other family members says it is wives and children. God says you should have your own husband in your own wife.
1 Corinthians 7:2 (KJV 1900)
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
Romans 1:27 (KJV 1900)
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
God said his word that if a married couple divorce one another and it has nothing to do with being unfaithful to another man or woman. God says that couple is still married and if they marry again they Matthew 5:28 (KJV 1900)
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Mark 10:11 (KJV 1900)
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
When you worship other gods it is said that you committed spiritual adultery.
Commandment # 8
Exodus 20:15 (KJV 1900)
15 Thou shalt not steal.
There is also a command and I believe is the last one commands people not to commit covetousness. Covetousness sometimes leads to theft which is stealing. People still because they desire something someone else has something they want but they don’t intend to work for they rather take something from you or me without the consequences. They are called thieves and it is also why God doesn’t like covetousness or people who are not satisfied with what they have and always looking at something someone else has. These people have a tendency of committing theft or thievery. It is one of Satan’s characteristics is to steal. When Satan lies to you about something that God gave you he tell you don’t have it, Satan is stealing from you something if you have that probably can do him harm but he convince you don’t have it.
There are some people who don’t pay their tithes. They are said to be stealing God’s money. The reason being that God gives us everything we have including money and he asked us to tithes 10% of what he gives us. So when you keep it, you become a thief.
Malachi 3:8 (KJV 1900)
8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Commandment # 9
Exodus 20:16 (KJV 1900)
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Commandment number nine is talking about telling lies or things that are not true. Any exaggeration anything that is not true is a lie. It is easy to figure it out that if you’re not telling the truth you’re telling a lie which is Satan himself the father of all liars. Usually liars have some something they are trying to do and I’m not talking about just deception I’m talking about the reason for the deception or anything. In the Bible there is a story of a woman named Rahab. Rahab was a prostitute who lived in the wall of a city called Jericho. Rahab had heard that Israel was coming and the city people were afraid of Israel. Joshua sent two men to spy out Jericho and it wound up in Rahab’s house which was located in the wall. When the king of the city asked Rahab did she see any men that were strangers in the city, Rahab said no although Rahab had hid the men under some flacks in the place where she dwelt. Now Rahab response was not true because she had hid the men but it Rahab knew that these men was sent by somebody who was of God. She knew where they were from and why they came. So what she did she was not trying to deceive or anything what she was doing was trying to make sure that two people that Joshua had sent would be able to get back to Joshua with a good report. But Rahab also asked the man that when Joshua and the other men got there to the city that they would spare Rahab and her family and they told her to put a red scarf the window and to stay inside until someone came in to get her. They also told that she was caught outside she would probably be killed and they would be home doing. This was not counted as a lie this was counted as someone helping something that God had ordained and she knew it. Does that mean that God tells lies no it does not.
In this country alone the mainstream media has been lying to the people for many decades and they do it for evil purposes. These are lies that are very destructive and very grievous.
Commandment # 10
Exodus 20:17 (KJV 1900)
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Many people have a covetous added to and they are never satisfied with anything that they have they always want more such as the people who love money I wish the Bible says these people are doomed because of their love of money.
1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV 1900)
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Matthew 16:26 (KJV 1900)
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
I would have to say that you should be thankful for all that you have. And give God glory for all he has done for you for there are many people who would like to have small comforts not great ones. Of which we here in America have enjoyed for long time at least up to now. So do not covet what another person has because that old saying goes.
“The grass always looks greener on the other side until you get over there and walk on it”
The Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 (KJV 1900)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
